As the Associate Manager, Engineering Generalist, you will provide Plastic Molds Engineering expertise to the Global Supply Chain Innovation (GSCI) Leads, coordinating Global and Regional Engineering input to deliver the expected results on projects. You will be responsible for collaborating with cross functional areas to identify the best part design and molding practices to ensure plastic part project success globally. You will also be the Molds Engineering focal point for all Global cross-category initiatives, and act as a consultant expert for Regional Molds Engineering. This role requires strong personal initiative to gain alignment and drive to successful results. Additionally, you will serve as the Engineering Sponsor at Component Platform reviews to drive design-for-manufacturing focus, ensure manufacturing readiness and technical robustness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support multiple global molds projects and programs simultaneously collaborating with Regional Molds Engineering, Mold makers/Molding Partners, Mold Procurement, RD&E Packaging Engineering and Molds Processing experts.

  • Champion up-front Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for all Global Projects related to plastic components (Caps, Bottles, etc).

  • Successfully manage project tasks according to SCJ processes and best practices (including the Molds Engineering SOP), identifying and collaborating with a cross functional team on process improvement opportunities.

  • Consult on new mold designs to assure the molds will meet our SCJ "Mold Design and Construction Standards".

  • Visit potential mold builders to evaluate their capabilities, equipment, manufacturing process, specialties, and quality control process.

  • Investigate new technologies i.e., Stack molds, collapsing core systems, hot runner technologies etc.

  • Analyze 3D CAD part models for moldability, molding issues and part integrity. Calculate part projected areas for IMM tonnage requirements and plastic volumes for injection unit requirements.

  • Transfer 3D data back and forth to product and mold designers to communicate changes and suggested improvements.

  • Support the Project Manager with detailed input to the project timeline and risk identification / mitigation plans to achieve project objectives.

  • Work with Regional Molds Engineering to determine project execution plans, including ramp up plans to meet project timelines and required capacity to meet Planning needs.

  • Lead the mold design review for global projects and manage the knowledge transfer to regional engineering across the mold construction.

  • Support RD&E by participating in Design FMEAs, and Manufacturing Sites by participating in Process FMEAs

  • Analyze and identify possible options when process or principles deviations may occur and initiates trade-off and escalation discussions. Issue status reports and escalate issues as necessary to Global Supply Chain Leadership.

  • Support project end to end process; Drive process excellence through the entire project globally; drive process documentation through Molding Technologies Playbook review.

  • Provide leadership support as mold Engineering sponsor at Component Platform Reviews

  • Establishes rapport with stakeholder groups and identifies stakeholder expectations and assures that these are not in conflict with project outcomes.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of Supply Chain/ RD&E experience and experience with plastic molding OR Master's Degree Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years of Supply Chain, RD&E experience and experience with plastic molding

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Experience in the CPG, Food/Beverage, Automotive or Pharmaceutical Industries developing equipment solutions and productivity

  • Experience in injection, thermoform and blow mold design, build and component molding.

  • Experience in scientific molding process

  • 5 years CAD Design experience (UG/NX preferred)

  • Problem Solving - Identifying solutions to resolve problems in a timely manner. Use formal tools to document the problem-solving process, potential root causes and data to support contribution of various factors. Expertise in risk management techniques.

  • Communication - Strong oral and written communication skills with success in influencing others in cross-functional areas.

  • Dealing with Ambiguity - Able to identify, recommend and influence objectives, and develop a course of action to deliver objective results.

  • Teamwork - Balances team and individual responsibilities which fosters group commitments to goals and objectives. Inspires and motivates collaboration and teamwork to perform effectively in a dynamic environment.

  • Business Acumen - Understands business implications of decisions; aligns work with strategic goals. Strong understanding of Total Cost of Ownership and how trade-off decisions impact delivered cost. This requires a sound understanding of cost drivers in supply chain management, specifically how mold design and processing can impact component costs.

  • Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities, sets goals and objectives. Strongly process oriented to ensure consistent approach and well-documented project outcomes.

  • Innovation - Displays original thinking, creativity and resourcefulness which generate innovative approaches and ideas.

  • Strong work ethics and sense of urgency, self-starter

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is Full-Time, regular business hours, Monday-Friday

  • Office work environment: Remote work available once a week for eligible employees

  • Ability to lift 10 - 40 pounds
