Position Reports To: Chief Medical Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to patients in an integrated care
setting. Provides supervision to Dental Hygienist(s) and Dental Assistant(s) as assigned.

Ensures all patients enjoy a positive experience and are treated with the care and compassion
expected.
Improves the oral health of patients through providing proper oral health care education, as well as the
delivery of quality oral health care services.
Enhances the efficiency of the clinic by performing expanded duties as allowable by law.
Ensures all patient records and related documentation are managed and maintained timely, accurately,
and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements.
Affects favorable billing and collection outcomes. Ensures all patient services and billing information
is collected and submitted timely and accurately.
Operational Excellence
Ensures all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes, and
related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies and
procedures. Ensures direct patient care is delivered using established oral health care procedures.
Relationships
Develops favorable relationships with all patients.
Interacts positively with patients (and their families) to provide information and education about oral
hygiene and general oral health care.
Provides verbal instruction and written information related to post treatment care.
Handles and resolves patient concerns with enthusiasm and empathy.
Establishes favorable working relationships with all staff members associated with clinical and
administrative operations.
Stewardship and Professionalism
Consistently upholds the values and mission of the organization at all times.
Represents the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.
Ensures compliance and attention to all corporate policies and procedures.
Completes continuing education as necessary to retain appropriate certifications and licensing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
I. Provides routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general
restorative procedures, crown and/or bridge construction, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated
endodontics and minor oral surgery.
2. Responsible for all dental care given to patients, including that provided by the Hygienist(s).
3. Ensures the administration of quality oral health care.
4. Responsible for beginning and ending appointments as close to "on schedule" as possible.
5. Initiates and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
6. Administers anesthetics and prescribes medications.
7. Refers patients for specialty care to other clinic programs our outside agencies as
appropriate.
8. Supervises Dental Hygienist(s) and Dental Assistant(s) when appropriate.
9. Conducts follow-up patient care.
I 0. Provides dental and oral health education to patients and families.
11. Assists in reviewing clinic productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines
for care and treatment.
12. Teaches and trains patients and staff on illness prevention.
13. Actively participates in community dental programs.
14. Assists with in-service and on-going training of clinic staff.
15. Builds relationships and fosters a high level of customer service.
16. Manages difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence
skills.
17. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with
the organization's policies and the standards of the dental profession.
18. Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and
associated charting requirements.
19. Performs assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
20. Utilizes computers for data entry and information retrieval with proficiency.
21. Utilizes & monitors effectiveness/efficiency of equipment/supplies used in the delivery of services.
22. Responsible for participating in quality assurance, peer review and audit activities.
23. Communicates frequently with others in verbal and written communication format.
24. Implements and evaluates operational and administrative processes.
25. Carries out and performs other supervisory, administrative, or clinical duties as assigned within the
realm of the Dental Profession.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education
DMD or DDS from an accredited dental educational institution.
Licensed to practice dentistry in Pennsylvania
DEA License
Demonstrated expertise in relevant dental practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned.
Demonstrated knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations.
Experience/Knowledge of HRSA accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local
regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a community health center environment.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully
Proficiency in knowledge of office management, use of computer, software packages,
and office machines.

Working Conditions
x Normal clinic working environment. Requires good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able
to speak and read and write the English Language.
x Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling).
x Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
x Normal accessibility and mobility throughout the region required
x Normal overtime/extended work hours

Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure
x Category I: Job classification includes ALL employees who have occupational exposure* to blood borne
pathogens* (blood or body fluids) while performing their job duties.
__ Category II: Job classification includes employees who are likely to have SOME occupational exposure to
blood borne pathogens because Category I tasks may occasionally be required.
__ Category III: Job Classification includes those employees who perform jobs and tasks where NO CONTACT
with blood borne pathogens occurs and Category I and Category II tasks ARE NOT a condition of employmen
