Overview

The Diagnostic Nurse/Paramedic provides direct diagnostic patient care services utilizing diagnostic equipment in accordance with those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience and has demonstrated competency. This position requires application of clinical, cooperative and independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to complete the variety of technical procedures.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Essential functions are the duties and responsibilities that are essential to the position (not a task list). Do not include if less than 5% of work time is spent on this duty. Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

* Performs clinical assessments and diagnostic cardiology procedures, inclusive of medication administration, in accordance to clinic policy and procedure. Applies independent professional judgment to adapt the procedure plan to optimize examination results

* Facilitate diagnostic cardiology patient care services inclusive of testing rendered in cardiopulmonary, ECHO, nuclear, treadmill and procedure room.

* Draft procedural reporting for final physician interpretation. Initiate billing for procedures performed.

* Knowledge base of therapeutic medications and the effects of on medical testing.

* Operate medical equipment including, but not limited to, treadmill systems, EKG machines, vital signs monitor, IV infusion pumps, nebulizer, glucometer, defibrillator, etc.

* Maintain contents of crash cart including testing of defibrillator and oxygen cylinder content.

* The Diagnostic Nurse/Paramedic is alert to potentially hazardous situations and is constantly mindful of the safety and security of the patient.

* Anticipates crisis circumstances and initiates required intervention.

* Respond to and initiate established intervention in Code Blue or other life-threatening circumstances.

* Report and process errors, omissions and incidents promptly in order to communicate unusual occurrence, evaluates need for change in policies or procedures, and assists in planning for prevention.

* Completes and maintains accurate documentation related to the performance of duties.

* Participate in procedure updates and the development of new procedures as needed.

* Participates in laboratory accreditation processes.

* Participates in department quality improvement processes.

* Travel to non-primary clinic location(s) to execute job functions as outlined in the job description.

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

* Perform other duties as requested by Clinic Administrator and/or Diagnostic Imaging Manager to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the office.

Development and Patient Education

* Provides individualized education for patients and their families, recognizing and adapting to any special needs.

* Coordinates work schedule with team members and Diagnostic Imaging Manager to assure workload coverage.

* Assumes responsibility for the safety and the mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the care of the Diagnostic Nurse/Paramedic

* Organizes daily work schedule and performs clerical duties with accuracy.

* Maintain and recognize malfunctioning equipment, perform minor troubleshooting, and initiate repair service when warranted.

* Be aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization's intranet site.

* Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

* Maintain compliance with State of Iowa, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management guidelines.

* Maintain compliance with Personnel policies and procedures.

* Monitor environmental conditions in order to secure protected health information.

* Behave in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance and HIPAA policies and procedures.

* Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

* Graduate of a RN/LPN accredited program.

* Emergency Medical Technician (paramedic level or equivocal program.)

Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Health Sciences.

Experience:

* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cardiology.

License(s)/Certification(s):

* Professional Licensure

* BCLS

* Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Certified Cardiac Device Specialist(CCDS)
