Overview

The Manager Physician Assistant, for Cardiology/Cardiac Surgery is an expert clinician in a particular specialty or subspecialty of nursing practice. The Manager oversees the clinical/operations of the department and is responsible for ensuring a consistent approach to the Multidisciplinary Care Coordination process for the service line and across services. Provides direct patient care, consultation, education research activities and clinical leadership. Fulltime position at Jersey Shore UMC.

Responsibilities

1. Works as a team member and accepts referrals from all units of the hospital and collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team in patient care planning. 2. Demonstrates resource capability within the institution through the use of other disciplines. 3. Utilizes principles of communication and change of theory to establish positive working relationships with nursing and medical center departments to accomplish the goals of HMH. 4. Attends committee meetings as assigned and contributing information regarding personal area of expertise. 5. Applies current theoretical concepts when implementing change in clinical practice within the institution. 6. Articulates and demonstrates the role of the clinical practitioner to nursing staff, administrators, physicians, and the community. Influences the activities of an individual or group toward goal setting and achievement by serving as a role model. 7. Manages and oversees the Cardiac Surgery function. Evaluates the operating room technique, complication rate, and follows universal precautions. 8. Promotes continuity of patient care within the institution from admittance to discharge, by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Acts as a role model by demonstrating current trends in ICU and Step Down patient care management. 9. Acts in the capacity of researcher and incorporates activities into daily work. 10. Regularly incorporates new scientific findings into educational programs and/or clinical practice unit in area of expertise. 11. Identifies areas requiring clinical study for performance improvement. 12. Actively participates in the research process and utilizes the information to further enhance the quality of patient care. 13. Responsible for continuing education and expanding job knowledge. Demonstrates an ability to function as an expert clinical resource, providing professional development opportunities for a new employee, undergraduate or graduate Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. 14. Facilitates patient teaching and support programs for patients/families in area of expertise. Independently participates in continuing education and maintains documentation. 15. Develops a personal plan of development upon hire, transfer, and performance management date in area of clinical expertise, conferring with supervisor on goals and objectives. Clinical practice, judgments, and critical thinking accurately reflects code of ethics, the New Jersey department of health requirements, JACHO, and institutional policies and procedures which provides for effective and safe patient/customer outcomes. 16. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 17. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Master's degree. 2. Experience in relevant patient care setting or as regulations dictate. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Doctorate degree Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 2. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate or Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification. 3. Registered and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners
