JOB DESCRIPTION Glendale Plywood
Position Title: Mentor Trainee
Reports to: Mentor Trainee
Department: Glendale Plywood

Hours per shift: Employee works 8-hour shifts with a 20 minute paid lunch and two 10 minute breaks; Employee works 10-hour shifts, with three 10- minute breaks, and 30- minute break.

Wage: Level 1, Level 2

Position Purpose: This position requires the mentor trainee to serve in the following positions, as directed by their supervisor for production and cross-training purposes.

Polyline Operator: The primary purpose of a polyline operator is to patch panels coming from the presses by using putty and epoxy to upgrade the finish quality of plywood sheets. Use a putty knife and poly gun to spread putty/epoxy on panel surfaces. Use router to remove all defects as outlined by APA standards. Work with co-workers in a continuous cycle while maintaining the flow of panels through the patch line.

Dryer Feeder: Dryer Feeder will keep the veneer dryer full with quality veneer while maintaining safety and quality by feeding sheets into the dryer. The worker will feed while moving back and forth on a platform in front of different sized stacks of green veneer. Feeder will keep up with the pace of the dryer, while maintaining safety and quality standards as outlined in the Job Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, and other requirements as directed by the supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Dryer Grader: Dryer Grader will accurately and safely grade dry veneer at the end of the dryer. Using proper pulling and stacking techniques, the grader will pull and stack veneer in appropriate cart. Keep up with the pace of the dryer while maintaining safety and quality standards as outlined in the Job Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures and other requirements as directed by the supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Raimann Operator: The Raimann machine is used to patch defects in veneer core stock by plugging holes, defects, and loose knots in veneer. The operator moves veneer one sheet at a time from stacks onto a table where he/she plugs the defects. The operator uses one foot pedal to plug the veneer and another foot pedal to raise and lower the veneer loads and to run the taper which is used to hold some plugs into the sheet. The operator must also keep Raimann full of Raimann strips ("plug stock" used to plug veneer defects) and be familiar with the safe and efficient operation of the strip saw (which cuts the plug stock into strips). Keep up with the expected production target, while maintaining safety and quality standards as outlined in the Job Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, and other requirements as directed by the supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Sheet Station: To ensure that the proper panel construction and sheet alignment occurs. To repair open defects with wood patches to meet grade of veneer being used. Operators ensure that sheets are tight against moving backboard chain and that the sheets extend past the laser line indicator.
Position Functions: Essential Functions*
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. Polyline Operator Patch panels using special putty and epoxy to upgrade quality of plywood panels. Knowledge of plywood grades (defect size, splits, knots) to ensure proper grading criteria set by the mill. Keep an accurate log of downtime, grade type and production paperwork. Knowledge of how to properly use putty and/or epoxy to upgrade panels. Use of a putty knife, panel knife and use of special spreading techniques.
