This science copywriter role calls for extraordinary attention to detail and unerring precision in the craft of writing, strong digital and marketing sensibilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and close familiarity with scientific customers and terminology. You'll translate key marketing objectives into exactingly accurate, effectively compelling copy for all written tactics, including content for an extensive e-commerce website, emails, brochures, social media posts, articles, video scripts, and more. As a key internal resource on scientific and clinical subject matter, you'll help to ensure that marketing communications accurately focus on customers' front-of-mind concerns.

A day in the life

  • Craft thoughtful, innovative, customer-resonant marketing communications that are consistent with brand standards and exemplify writing and customer experience best practices
  • Develop copy that accurately represents and properly emphasizes product features and benefits to enhance marketing impact and customer engagement for its intended audience
  • Serve as a source of scientific and healthcare knowledge to help educate copywriters, content authors, and designers about individual products and product lines, as well as customer practices and preferences regarding products
  • Optimize website content to ensure an outstanding end-to-end customer experience at every point of the customer journey
  • Continuously build your institutional knowledge of the company, its products, and the markets it serves; deepen your understanding of competitors' positions and practices in the marketplace; and stay current with broader retail and copy style/editorial trends to help inform/differentiate our own marketing communications

Keys to success

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Science, Communications, English, Journalism, Advertising, or similar and 5+ years of experience OR
  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Science, Communications, English, Journalism, Advertising, or similar with 3+ years of experience
  • Marketing writing experience that includes working with material of a highly technical or scientific nature, ideally gained from experience in a research lab or healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and leadership qualities are all required

Experience

  • Proven proficiency at the targeted development of on-brand, benefits driven, and technically sophisticated product marketing messages for clinical and scientific audiences to meet ongoing business objectives
  • Demonstrated experience writing clear, concise, and both creative and technically oriented copy for impactful on- and off-line marketing communications; includes exemplary writing abilities marked by excellent knowledge of grammar, keen attention to detail-including outstanding spelling and proofreading skills-and accomplished story construction skills
  • Strong ability to understand complex, abstract science-based subjects-especially clinical healthcare and research topics-and express them in a straightforward, consumer-friendly way
  • Proven understanding of customer engagement methodologies combined with a successful track record of combining business objectives, design recommendations, and technical constraints into a single, innovative, brand-right solution
  • Confirmed understanding of marketing and branding principles, including customer journeys and user flows, personas and marketing funnel stages, and a solid understanding of graphic design and information architecture principles, including layouts and wireframes
  • Outstanding in-person communication skills, polished presentation skills, and an uncommon ability to respond positively to critical feedback
  • Exceptional initiative, problem-solving drive, and passion for collaboration combined with the poise and determination to multitask effectively under pressure while balancing speed with quality
  • Proven experience writing SEO, SEM and e-commerce website copy and familiarity with ADA compliance considerations

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proven experience crafting compelling digital and traditional business-to-business marketing content for scientific and/or healthcare practitioner audiences; includes the ability to write white papers, buying guides, and other educational documents, articles, and web content about complex science- and healthcare-related topics and products
  • Demonstrable ability to distill sophisticated scientific and healthcare topics and communicate them clearly and engagingly to a variety of customers, from administrators and procurement officers to lab techs and researchers
  • Understanding of scientific and clinical terminology-and, ideally, trends in the research and healthcare spaces-to be able to write conversationally about topics in the everyday language of researchers and clinicians
  • Working knowledge of lab products, associated equipment and workflows plus familiarity with the operations of research, biopharma, clinical and industrial laboratories are very strongly desired
  • Ideal candidate will have experience working in a lab and/or will have completed coursework in a science- or healthcare-related area
