Workplace Status:

Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role

General Motors is at the forefront of the transformation of automotive with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of leading-edge central compute and autonomous capabilities. Our Embedded Platforms Infrastructure team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on building the software platforms that underpins how controller safety, communications, cybersecurity, memory, over-the-air programming and power management functions across the electronics portfolio of all of our vehicles.

We are seeking a high-performing Engineering Manager interested in building all-new processes & team to ensure quality deployment of infrastructure products across the company and supply base. This includes workflow definition for infrastructure development, quality assurance measures on product development tools and creating an automated virtual ECU and multi-ECU pressure test that confirms readiness prior to deployment. This individual will be depended on to build strong partnerships with internal and external colleagues and lead the strategic execution across the platform.

The selected individual will be expected to provide thought and people leadership, foster innovation, facilitate communication, and inspire passion. In addition, it is expected they will exhibit strong leadership behaviors, actively champion change, demonstrate high level of intuition for business, strategically focus on addressing systemic issues, possess a high level of learning agility, ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity, tendency to expand the boundaries of innovation and not accept status quo.

Responsibilities

  • Develop & deploy robust process controls for coordinated infrastructure development & deployment, including systems and software engineering
  • Develop real-time visibility to core metrics and represent infrastructure software development quality to SDV EP leadership
  • Establish & Deploy automated 'Superset' ECU Infrastructure testing functionality
  • Establish & Deploy Multi-ECU pressure test to ensure verification of coordinated artifacts prior to deployment via VeSCom
  • Establish & Deploy automation for change controlled for artifact release leveraging existing Continuous Integration pipeline toolchains
  • Build partnerships with functional peers across the GM and Tier 1 tooling & software development community to ensure process and tools setup to enable high velocity and efficient embedded software development
  • Develop, train, and enforce process for software development and associated requirements document, test & release to ensure on time delivery with first time quality.
  • Recruit, provide people leadership and technical coaching for the reporting team.

Additional Description

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelors degree in Computer/Software/Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in electronics/software design and development
  • Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability for working across functional and organizational boundaries
  • Strong experience driving business case driven technical solution decisions for broad organization.

Qualifications - Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Business, Electrical/Software/Computer Engineering/Science
  • Strong experience with Agile software development workflows
  • Experience leading global team of direct reports responsible for designing and commercializing software
  • Strong comprehension of automotive software development, architecture and AutoSAR ethernet stack, experience w/ software bring-up.
