The Opportunity:

As a Systems Engineer – Server Capacity Planning, you will be responsible for managing the inventory of servers and network hardware, forecasting future needs, and optimizing their usage. You will oversee the entire hardware lifecycle, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Additionally, you will monitor server utilization, availability, and efficiency, and recommend solutions to enhance operations and reduce costs.

The Work itself:

  • Manage the inventory of servers and related hardware, including managing, forecasting, and allocating the hardware

  • Analyze the server utilization and capacity, and recommend solutions for optimization and improvement

  • Create and maintain models and simulations to forecast server resource requirements and identify potential bottlenecks, risks, and opportunities

  • Develop and implement server capacity plans and strategies to optimize server utilization, availability, and efficiency

  • Coordinate the procurement, installation, improvement, and disposal of servers and related hardware

  • Collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure the server infrastructure meets the business needs and objectives

  • Research and evaluate new technologies and trends in the server domain, and propose enhancements and upgrades

  • Develop, maintain, and present capacity plans for dedicated server infrastructure. Plans will serve quarterly purchase needs and inform annual budget planning

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

 

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
• Strong knowledge of server hardware, software, and operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.
• Proficient in server-related tools and technologies, such as virtualization, cloud computing, backup, recovery, etc.
• Familiarity with RHEL, Windows, VMWare, Kubernetes, Tableau, Microsoft BI
• Proficiency in analyzing large sets of data
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
• Good communication, collaboration, and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Highly driven, resourceful, and results-oriented

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 119,100.00 to 172,600.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
