The Army Platforms Department mission is to provide world class engineering to rapidly migrate the U.S. Army from operational concepts through technology exploration and innovation to the fielding of integrated solutions that provide an asymmetric advantage. Key sponsors of the Department work program include PEO Missiles and Space and PEO Aviation (Huntsville, AL), PEO Ground Combat Systems and the Ground Vehicle Support Center (Ann Arbor, MI), JPEO Ammunition and Armament (Picatinny Arsenal, NJ), Army Test and Evaluation Command (Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD) and JPEO Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (Edgewood, MD). The work programs leverage a diverse set of technical disciplines from within the Department and across the corporation to maximize our impact in solving some of the Army’s toughest modernization challenges in the areas of Agile software development, Cyber resiliency, directed energy, digital engineering, autonomous systems, and command and control.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Army Platform Department (N217) is seeking an RF Communications engineer to assist in the development of technical approaches focused on the design, development, integration and testing of emerging RF comms systems. The key sponsor is JPEO Ammunition and Armament (Picatinny Arsenal, NJ). The job is an intermediate step with Shrewsbury, NJ being the preferred location for this position to foster sponsor relationships and shape the direct work program.

This is an exciting opportunity for an RF communications engineer to assume a technical leadership role in the modernization and development of tactical communications systems. Candidates will work on a wide range of engineering challenges, including:

Define RF system architectures and develop technical specifications.
Conduct systems level analysis, including link budget analysis, systems performance analysis and simulations to optimize system design.
Develop and maintain system-level documentation, to include technical reports, design documentation, and test plans.
Support system integration and testing, troubleshoot issues, and propose solutions to improve system performance.
Conduct research and stay current with industry developments and emerging technologies.
Collaborate with customer and stakeholders to define system requirements and ensure customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 2 years of experience or a Masters degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step.
2 + years of experience in RF system design and architecture.
Strong knowledge of RF theory, RF system modeling and simulation, communications system theory and design, and RF test methodologies
Experience with MATLAB for analysis/simulation
Strong problem-solving skill and ability to optimize RF communications systems.
Conduct system-level analysis and simulation to ensure that RF systems meet performance requirements.
Strong understanding of RF propagation, modulation, demodulation and other communications waveform characteristics.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Active Secret Clearance
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree or BS and 5 years of experience
Phased array, small form factor, and modular/scalable Antenna expertise
Experience evaluating and testing communications systems.
Experience in software defined radio (SDR) technology
