Description

This position performs specialized legal support and administrative duties. The support duties require trust, loyalty, judgment, initiative, confidentiality, and knowledge of responsibilities associated with litigation handled on behalf of our insureds and the company. You will be focused on reviewing work cues for our managing attorneys and preparing and summarazing legal file information. You will work primarily from home and will report to the Legal Services Manager.

Position Compensation Range:

$23.00 - $33.17

Primary Accountabilities

  • Receive and respond to all types of inquiries, relay messages, processes walk-ins and retrieves files upon request.
  • Create letters at the direction of an attorney or paralegal.
  • Manage attorneys' calendars, including court and other file-related appearances, appointments, internal and external meetings.
  • Manages the processing of incoming litigation files to aid in assignment to attorney.
  • Perform mail handling and distribution functions. Screens and responds to incoming mail to relay and clarify information, coordinate attorney and paralegal activities, and otherwise facilitate file handling.
  • Work with attorneys and paralegals to ensure delivery of documents, evidentiary exhibits, and other items to courts, opposing counsel, experts and others.
  • Perform necessary department filing and file maintenance functions. Performs all the tasks necessary to close a file.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
  • Demonstrated experience performing legal support duties including interacting with members of the judiciary, opposing and co-counsel, clients, and expert and lay witnesses.
  • Demonstrated experience with various PC software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suites, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Acrobat).
  • Demonstrated experience working with confidential documents and situations.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and proofreading legal documents for proper grammar and spelling.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of legal procedures, legal terminology, and the judicial system.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of legal ethics rules and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Location

In this primarily home-based role, you will spend 80% of your time (4+ days per week) working from home. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of one of the following locations: Madison, WI 53783; Denver, CO 80112; Eden Prairie, MN 55343; St. Joseph, MO 64507; Nashville, TN 37214. On occasion you may be asked to travel to an office location for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, trainings, and culture events.
