Position Announcement

This position coordinates the schedule of activities among the different semesters that share space in the Nursing Skills Laboratory. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies and ensures lab functions appropriately and meets various University and OSHA guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate schedule of activities among the different semesters that share space in the Nursing Skills Laboratory.
  • Recommend to Department Chair, Nursing Faculty, and/or Dean operational changes to enhance the effectiveness of the Nursing Skills Lab in serving students and faculty members.
  • Develop and maintain a computerized inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of equipment and obtain requests for new supplies and equipment when appropriate.
  • Order and maintain supplies and linens as needed for student use.
  • Interface with sales representatives, suppliers of equipment and supplies, and biomedical technicians.
  • Maintain budget for supplies with supervision and assure receipt of ordered supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise the Nursing Skills Lab Assistant to ensure routine cleaning of physical space and equipment, and to provide an efficient and consistent organizational flow of the day-to-day operations.
  • Provide appropriate OSHA postings, brochures, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure disposal of industrial waste according to University and OSHA standards.
  • Participate with faculty to ensure supervision of laboratory use, teaching/training of faculty on laboratory equipment use, and assist faculty in the use of high-fidelity human patient simulators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and/or Critical Care Technician, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, or LPN licensure required.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience required; three (3) years of work experience in healthcare setting or educational environment preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of University, college, and department organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to keep abreast in the use and training of new instructional technology.
  • Openness and ability to learn uses of the new instructional technologies, such as high-fidelity human patient simulators and virtual reality equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to assist faculty for instructional purposes, as needed.
  • Ability to positively interact with staff, students, and faculty in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment.
  • Ability to provide detailed reports and efficient organizational skills to maintain the Nursing laboratory.
  • Possess good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Effective management and organizational skills to maintain the Nursing laboratory.
  • Skill in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases using Microsoft Office software.
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments, based on class scheduling.
  • Ability to work with hazards related to working in medical waste/sharps environment (potential for exposure to contaminated blood and/or body fluids).
  • Ability to lift objects up to 30 pounds, requiring standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $51,000 - $54,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of July 1, 2024.
