Job Title: Anesthesia Technician

Location: George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Position Overview: The Anesthesia Technician at George Washington University Hospital plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the anesthesia department. Working closely with anesthesiologists, residents, and other healthcare professionals, the Anesthesia Technician is responsible for various tasks, including assisting with patient care, stocking supplies, room setup, turnover, and maintaining anesthesia equipment.


Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting Anesthesiologists and Residents: Collaborate with anesthesiologists and residents to provide support during procedures, including preparing patients for anesthesia administration, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with patient positioning.
  2. Stocking and Supply Management: Maintain inventory of anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Ensure all necessary supplies are readily available for procedures and restock items as needed. This includes maintaining adequate levels of anesthesia gases, medications, IV solutions, and other consumables.
  3. Room Setup and Turnover: Prepare operating rooms and anesthesia workstations for procedures by setting up equipment, supplies, and monitoring devices. Ensure rooms are clean, organized, and properly equipped for each case. Assist with turnover between cases, including cleaning and restocking anesthesia carts and workstations.
  4. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance checks on anesthesia equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety. Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacements as necessary. Keep detailed records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  5. Assistance with Blood and Medication Transport: Assist with the safe transport of blood products, medications, and other critical supplies between departments as needed. Adhere to hospital protocols for handling and transporting sensitive materials.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a certified anesthesia technology program.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in anesthesia or surgical services.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory management and record-keeping.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects and equipment.
  • Certification as a Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.).

Working Conditions:

  • This position involves working in a fast-paced hospital environment, including operating rooms, procedure rooms, and patient care areas.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.
  • Must adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.
