Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities









What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Manager, Operations & Maintenance who is looking to take an exciting next step in their career on a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Manager, Operations & Maintenance you will be be responsible for identifying and autonomously implementing ideas and solutions as it relates to managing, developing, and maintaining the Iridium teleport network and SDA Ground Entry Point system. In this role, you'll be responsible for management and implementation of all aspects of the Ground Entry Point Maintenance and Sustainment Team. Examples of the duties include but are not limited to building maintenance plans, establishing training plans, conducting installation activities, managing scheedules, personnell and equipment. This position requires an active/current Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

What You'll Do:

    Foster and develop a highly effective team to be the on-site technical experts responsible for the management and installation of all ground entry point components
  • Mentor and train your team by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and acknowledging performance issues when necessary
  • Lead system integration testing of the new GEP (Ground Entry Point) antenna systems being performed by the primary antenna vendor for both FAT (Factoring Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) phases
  • Be responsible for monitoring and assessing GEP antenna system, GEP site, and network performance based on system requirements and operational contact statistics, communicate issues/concerns/improvement recommendations to management
  • Perform duties as the Site Lead for GEP installations. Produce and implement lift plans, safety plans, delivery schedules, and manage all aspects of an active construction site
  • Define and develop new monitoring and control interfaces between the SDA Operations Control center and remote Ground Entry Point antenna sites
  • Work independently to review and modify technical documentation and drawings pertaining to systems and subsystems within a system and/or facility
  • Define and develop new Operations & Maintenance processes and procedures for our SDA GEP's
  • Plan, coordinate, and seek approval for system Change requests for Software (SW) upgrades and/or Hardware (HW) upgrades for replacements and for facilities related work
  • Support and lead mechanical related work associated with mounting and dismounting equipment from an antenna system, as needed
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and craft solutions to resolve both system and site fault or anomaly conditions
  • Work independently to configure and utilize Lab test equipment - includes Network and spectrum analyzers, Software driven power, and frequency meters
  • Develop GEP performance metrics that include Antenna and sub-system components
  • Interface with vendors/customers through technical interchanges and coordinate SW/HW updates
  • Play a key role in performing or participating in trade studies in response to obsolescence or cost-effective replacements
  • Be responsible for interpreting site evaluations and surveys, providing recommendations, and executing or supporting the results

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering or related field, OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • 8+ years of telecommunications/Satcom experience in network operations, field, central office or RF communications environment
  • 5+ years of Site Lead/Site construction experience
  • Proficient mechanical skills and practical experience installing and integrating antenna systems
  • Ability to configure and utilize RF test equipment - includes Network and spectrum analyzers, Software driven power and frequency meters
  • Proficient with Sketchup and/or CAD Structural Analysis Software: CATIA, SolidWorks
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, provide feedback on revisions and reviews
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team's goals
  • Have a team-oriented mentality and be able to easily build meaningful relationships with others and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with new and unique solutions
  • Be self-motivated and possess a high degree of creativity, independence, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple projects for yourself and your team while making sure to meet deadlines

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Familiarity working and developing in an Agile work environment
  • Administrative level capabilities in configuring network-based servers and systems
  • Experience or knowledge for determining electrical and HVAC loading calculations
  • Experience with Wireshark
  • Industry recognized technical certifications (LPIC, RHSA, Net+)
  • Advanced or Expert MS Office skills/MS Project
  • Knowledge or experience using JIRA and SharePoint

We'll also need you to:

  • Be able to carry and lift 50 lbs. /22 Kg
  • Be able to travel up to 50%, including international travel
  • Hold a valid U.S. Passport
  • Be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenships

Work Environment:

This position works in the company office, in a home office, or on work sites. The position will spend most time primarily located at work sites requiring work with hardware, software, test equipment, and, at times, will require climbing up onto the antenna system to remove or replace equipment and/or Hardware or may require the use of power and/or hand tools. For instances where the position is located in a company office or home office, the role will be sedentary requiring sitting in a chair, working with a computer, and using basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
