Job Description


Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

Southwest Community College is seeking applications for an adjunct faculty position in Mathematics for the Bluefield Center. This teaching role will be in a face-to-face format . The College seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.

Other responsibilities include participation in the following: achievement of the College's mission and goals; upholding the College's values; and personal and program evaluation.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.

Assignment will be for synchronous teaching.

Face-to-face teaching is required.








Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.






KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or a related field with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics to teach credit-level coursework

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse ages, backgrounds, life experiences and abilities

  • The successful candidate will possess expert skills, knowledge, experience and education in the subject area and a history of successful teaching or related experience.

Two years teaching experience, work experience in the field, and experience with online teaching.
