Full Time (40 Hour Week)

Evening Shift

8 Hour Shifts

Responsible for coordinating patient care and nursing service activities consistent with the mission, vision and values of the organization. Supervises the emergency department staff. Directs the professional nursing care for patients in assigned area. Assesses, plans, evaluates, and documents the Nursing process in the assigned unit as needed.

  • Provides leadership along with the manager for the unit on a day to day operational basis.
  • Participates with the manager in leading the efforts for the unit to develop and achieve “best operational and clinical practice”. Reinforces positive outcomes and demonstrates corrective action for identified problems.
  • Accountable with the manager for ensuring the provision of patient care 24 hours a day. Rounds on patients to obtain insight into care provision and patient satisfaction.
  • Establishes strong rapport with physicians, staff and peers. Communicates effectively.
  • Accountable with the manager for assigned clinical operations, patient care activities, coordinating patient care delivery on a daily basis in collaboration with other members of the health care team.
  • Ensures with the manager that patient care is delivered in accordance with professional, regulatory, and medical center and department standards.
  • Is accountable with the manager for developing, implementing, and monitoring unit-based quality improvement programs. Uses lean principles in problem solving departmental and intradepartmental operational issues.
  • Responsible in coordination with the manager for developing and implementing unit based goals for the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Collaborates with the manager to complete performance evaluations and counseling of staff in a timely manner. Identifies staff behaviors to be recognized or disciplined and notifies manager. Supports compliance with behavior standards established by the manager. Assists manager with counseling and the disciplinary process in accordance with labor management and hospital polices. Serves as a role model and resource for staff to be accountable for adhering to standards.
  • Complies with established operational plan, staffing pattern and operating budget. Work with manager to establish capital and operational budgets. Identify and investigate variances and collaborate with manager for review and resolution. Work within product guidelines of the department.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance in all pertinent policies and procedures and JCAHO requirements. Actively participates in performance improvement activities within the unit and with other departments. Provides feedback to staff so that trends in monitoring reflect compliance with regulatory and department standards.
  • Communicates shift information and/or problems to the appropriate person. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem-solving issues. Demonstrates effective delegation and prioritization skills.
  • Assists Manager(s) in interviewing and hiring of staff for the unit and assists manager to create and maintain a department environment that encourages staff development, retention of staff, customer services and patient/family-centered care.
  • Participates in the identification, planning and implementation of educational programs for all levels of staff and ensures active participation of staff in educational activities and research. Contributes to educational process and professional development of students in the healthcare field.
  • Assists manager in building physician relations.
  • Has ability to recognize the patient’s age as a relevant factor and applies appropriate decision-making skills in the assessment, treatment on care provided for the patient.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school
  • Upon hire: Washington Registered Nurse License
  • Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
  • 5 years relevant clinical experience with demonstrated clinical knowledge and leadership qualities
  • 2 years Supervisory or Charge Nurse experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Upon hire: CEN
