Preferred Qualifications Position Summary The Agricultural and Natural Resources (ANR) Educator position is an exempt professional staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for managing the many ANR resources offered by a county office. A high level of independent judgment is needed to effectively carry out the duties of the job and the incumbent will manage both the Extension program administration and ANR education delivery by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate. Work in this occupation is by nature a combination of office and field work. This person works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff where applicable and is administratively responsible to the County Extension Coordinator and the District Extension Director. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Proficient in typing, filing, and computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office and Quick Books. Good communication skills needed to answer telephone and greet the public. Duties/Responsibilities Receive agricultural samples to be identified/tested. Professionally conduct ANR educational programs with prepared curriculum that meets seasonal needs and the needs of clients. Assist with outreach programming by suggesting educational events and assisting with or leading training activities. Host numerous programs focused on different agriculture commodities and homeowner topics that are relevant to the community. Assist in planning and facilitating ANR educational programming, including reserving venues, creating promotional materials, registering participants, copying handouts and preparing materials for class participants, and assisting with program set-up and break-down. Assist with client services by answering homeowner lawn and landscape questions. Conduct site visits for homeowners and agricultural producers on various topics, from ornamental horticulture to pasture renovation. Utilize website and social media to increase ANR program outreach. Collaborate with other agriculture associations/industries to attend meetings, events, educational classes, and provide agricultural updates. Identify important areas of need within the county. Percentage of time 55 Duties/Responsibilities Maintain and updates listservs for volunteer groups and client groups (Extension Community, Small Flock owners, agricultural producers, green industry professionals). Also maintain communication through weekly announcements and updates and by attending board meetings, Lunch & Learn meetings, and team-building events. Work with ANR agent to make volunteers aware of program participation requirements, Extension projects, volunteer opportunities, and continuing education opportunities. Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities Submit necessary crop reporting, farm gate, and other agriculture numbers for the county. Maintain appropriate records for fiscal reporting of program areas. May prepare various accounting forms and exercise basic accounting responsibility in reconciling Extension program budgets. Keep financial records current within the existing month. Budget allocated funds so that equipment, supplies, travel expenses, and other program supports are within limits and seek additional resources for programs. Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities Build relationships within the community, farmers, agriculture industry leaders, and stakeholders. Demonstrate personal interest and involvement in local community by joining local civic organizations (or supporting their efforts) and networking with community leaders. Percentage of time 5 Duties/Responsibilities Perform specific tasks and assume leadership for certain program areas as specified by the District Extension Director or County Extension Coordinator/Agent.
