Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in Biology or science related field and at least 4 years experience in a biological research laboratory Position Summary This is a professional, administrative, technical, and supervisory position in a biotechnology and molecular research laboratory studying and performing diagnostic services in detecting and identifying avian pathogens, viruses, and bacteria, as well as research in vaccine development and epidemiology of avian mycoplasma. This position performs research, which includes reading and applying pertinent literature, planning, and conducting molecular biology and animal experiments requiring advanced skills and techniques, analyzing and interpreting data. This position will supervise and coordinate the day-to-day responsibilities in the implementation of research protocols, as well as ensure that procedures are in accordance with federal and university regulations and sponsored agency policies. Duties/Responsibilities Coordination of PI directed research projects focused on the development of new diagnostic tests, development of novel vaccines, improvement of current vaccines and epidemiology of poultry diseases. Ensure daily tasks including routine husbandry of research animals, inoculations, vaccinations, necropsies, data collection and analysis are conducted according to standards and regulations. Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of proper research standard operating procedures. Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities Train and supervise technicians, graduate students, and others that may be working in the lab. Monitor to ensure work is following standard operating procedures. Assign tasks and responsibilities and evaluate productivity and quality. Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities Perform research testing including molecular diagnostics (including DNA sequencing), histopathology, molecular diagnostics, and serology. Prepare and maintain cultures, culture media and reagents. Prepare and inoculate clinical samples in appropriate substances for use in research trials. Perform various scientific tests and procedures (PCR, DNA extraction, DNA cloning, serum plate agglutination tests, Hemagglutination inhibition, ELISA, Immunoflourescence test) to identify cultures and biochemical reactions. Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities Supervise production and quality control of proficiency panels and ring trials. Supervise wet labs and continuing education workshops. Assist in lab cleanliness and maintenance, as well as maintaining inventory, supplies, and equipment.
