The School of Medicine received a $1.8 million award from California Medicine Scholars Program to build a pathway from Community College to Undergraduate to Medical School. Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Workforce Innovation and Education Quality, Assistant Dean for Admissions, Outreach, and Diversity, and the general supervision of the Workforce Programs Manager, the Avenue M/Pathways Outreach Coordinator will assist in the design and lead the coordination of pathway initiatives that span from community college to undergraduate universities to medical school. The incumbent will serve as a principal staff in the implementation, communication, and collaboration of longitudinal pathway initiatives focused specially on developing physicians to meet the regional healthcare needs of Northern California. This position involves designing, conducting, promoting, evaluating, and supporting longitudinal pathway programs in compliance with organizational objectives. The Coordinator supports undergraduate learners (including community college students) with responsibilities in several key areas, including creating a community of belonging and inclusion through cohort activities, curriculum development, classroom instruction (encompassing virtual and in-person teaching and learning activities), scheduling clinical rotations for visiting medical students, learning cohort activities, and assessing and evaluating student core competencies and other impact measures for each pathway program.


This Avenue M/Pathways Outreach Coordinator focuses on North State Regions learners and partners including: Shasta College, College of the Siskyous, surround high schools, and various community health organizations. Regional travel between partners sites required, up to 50%.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive years of experience in a higher educational setting with course or program organization and implementation.
  • Experience with specialized tracks within larger programs and the implementation of their unique components.
  • Experience with recruitment and admissions within a professional school.
  • Experience organizing and implementing large scale events and conferences.
  • Several years of experience working in the area of equity, diversity, and inclusion (e.g., diversity training experience, pathway programs experience preferred at the college level or higher)
  • Demonstrated advanced organizational and advanced analytical skills to assume new assignments and independently follow through to successful completion; to manage details of complex projects; and to schedule and coordinate meetings.
  • Demonstrated advanced professional interpersonal skills to work collaboratively coordinate and integrate with others in a pleasant, tactful, diplomatic and effective manner and to relay information accurately
  • Demonstrated effective listening and excellent communication skills to obtain goals and objectives of course curriculum. Experience to assess present and future needs, and to participate in course planning.
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical skills to assess program needs and to develop and monitor project timelines for course implementation.
  • Demonstrated skill to problem solve and recommend appropriate solutions. Skill to respond to unanticipated events and requirements and prioritize them appropriately.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and proofreading skills, to include creating correspondence, reports, and keeping accurate and complete meeting minutes.
  • Advanced customer service skills to handle requests expediently with minimal direction.
  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies
  • Sufficient technical skills to provide basic troubleshooting support for computer and other standard electronic equipment used in teaching circumstances.
  • Proven mastery with basic medical terminology.

Department Description


The mission of the Office of Medical Education (OME) is to provide high quality support for the School of Medicine teaching programs through the delivery of centralized expertise, services and instructional resources to faculty and medical students. OME is an interdisciplinary team of technical, academic, and administrative support staff, directed by the Assistant Dean for Medical Education. OME supplies many of the resources needed by the faculty to organize, deliver, evaluate, and enhance the professional curriculum. The unit also provides a variety of services directly to students, including instructional materials, financial aid, counseling, tutoring, and support. Finally, OME sponsors a number of special programs in support of the academic and healthcare workforce mission.
