Job Summary

GateWay Community College is currently seeking a Fiscal Specialist. This position reports to the Fiscal Analyst Sr, assists in cashier area and provides a variety of complex support and assignments using knowledge of cashiering practices and enforces District's administrative regulations, policies, and procedures. This position will provide Student Business Services with elevated level of customer service, including processing of financial transactions and daily cashiering processes with integrity and accuracy. Provide excellent front facing customer service to our credit and clock hour students, faculty and staff. Works cross functionally with both credit and clock programs in maintaining and providing accurate student account information.

Essential Functions

40% - Responsible for ensuring accurate accounting procedures, general office processes, account reconciliations, fiscal management compliance, third party invoicing, facilities use invoicing, payment plans, and related student account and fiscal functions; uses reporting tools, system queries, and MCCCD's Financial Systems to produce financial reports for internal reconciliations purposes as needed; provides high volume of professional customer service for internal and external customers.

20% - Assist in complex student account analysis; interprets financial data, researches discrepancies, and resolves reconciliations; reviews and processes a variety of student and fiscal documents such as student debt authorizations, third party billing authorizations, and journal vouchers;

20% - Assist with credit and clock tuition; maintains excel spreadsheets related to student receivables, records, and disbursement of funds.

20% - Assist with various college departments/Divisions, primarily Admissions & Records, Financial Aid, GWECHS and Dual Enrollment in all cash handling, cash management, and billing procedures. conducts routine one-on-one training as well as group and new staff training as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of financial support experience in area related to cashier's such as accounts payable, receivable or payroll.

OR

High school diploma/GED and three years of financial support experience in area related to cashier's such as accounts payable, receivable or payroll.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  2. Three (3) years of experience working with an online financial management system, preferably Peoplesoft.
  3. Two (2) years of experience working in a cashier type setting working with cash, checks, credit cards, financial reconciliations, and cash handling procedures.
  4. Experience working with excel spreadsheets and word processing software such as Microsoft.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles, MCCCD Cashiering Policies, internal controls, compliance, and record keeping.


Special Working Conditions
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
  • Must be in good standing and not be in default of a student loan, or in overpayment of student grant assistance
