Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is looking for a Student Services Technician. This position provides front line in-person customer service and administers computer and paper-based placement and academic exams in a high-volume college testing environment. The Student Services Technician disseminates accurate information via in-person, phone, and email communication. Will independently open and/or close the Testing Center per office schedule. Works with diverse populations of internal and external customers. These customers include students, staff, faculty, administrators, high school counselors/employees, other colleges, and the general public. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

Essential Functions

70% - Provide front line in-person customer service to administer and proctor a variety of college level academic and placement exams, with an emphasis on accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness; provide a high level of direct customer service to internal and external customers including students, staff, faculty, and administrators; utilize internal technology and databases along with a variety of internal/external resources and websites, including Student Information Systems (SIS) & EdReady, to administer and track exams as well as recording, entering/uploading, and communicating results; validate identification of testers and maintain confidentiality of student records by following all FERPA guidelines; provide detailed verbal & written test instructions, assist with data entry, maintain an accurate and secure testing environment; may guide the work of Temporary Staff; assist new and continuing students with enrollment functions in the Welcome Center.

30% - Provide technical assistance to students, staff, and faculty regarding testing related sites and processes. Communicate clearly and accurately with in-person, phone, and email inquiries about enrollment and testing processes and services, including specific exam processes and procedures. Follows office systems and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one year of clerical, administrative office support or related experience. There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

1. Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution

2. One year or more experience working with students, faculty, staff, and/or administrators in a higher education or other educational setting

3. Experience working in a front-line customer service environment

4. Experience with administering exams or office procedures, following specific guidelines and instructions

5. Experience working with databases, internet applications, various software and/or providing technical assistance

6. Experience working with confidential records and/or securing confidential materials

7. Strong written communication skills as demonstrated in a cover letter and resume

Special Working Conditions
  • Work schedule varies, morning, evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires a physical presence on campus.
