The College of Education & Human Development's Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education prepares teachers, scholars, community and school leaders in early childhood and elementary education. Students gain extensive content knowledge, hone innovative teaching methods and learn to work effectively within diverse classrooms.



The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education is seeking to hire an Administrative Specialist, Academic.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:



  • Develops and produces projected and quarterly class schedules.

  • Responds to program inquiries on the phone, in writing, and in person providing information about admission requirements, basic academic policies and general content. Advises enrolled students as needed about requirements for graduation.

  • Provides historical enrollment data for the use in departmental scheduling of classes.

  • Monitors the department classroom allocation and utilization; coordinates, tracks, and resolves the assignment of specialized technology/media classrooms.

  • Coordinates quarterly functions regarding policies and procedures for student registration.

  • Monitors daily registration figures and low enrollment courses for justification or cancellation.

  • Monitors the student registration for violation of business core requirements; notifies students with violations; advises students of subsequent course registration modifications.

  • Assists with the department curriculum process from College-Level to University-Level.

  • Verifies the departmental curriculum and amendments.

  • Serves as department "Registrar"; reviews and signs all grade change forms; audits, removes, or extends incomplete grade assignments and performs course authorizations.

  • Supervises the distribution of class roll verification and corrections; monitors the final grade reporting.

  • Coordinates student information sessions, orientations, and writing assessments.

  • Submits special needs waivers.

  • Processes swipe card requests for student access to the building and department.

  • Assists faculty with recruitment activities.

  • Collects and maintains syllabi for department.

  • Oversees departmental textbook adoptions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree and four years administrative experience; or high school diploma or GED and eight years administrative experience; or a combination of education and related experience.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Working knowledge of GSU systems (Banner, Slate, I-College)
