About the Job


Reporting to the School of Nursing's Lead Development Officer, the Alumni Relations Officer (ARO) is responsible for growing and managing the school's alumni relations program. The ARO will serve as the primary point of contact for the School of Nursing Alumni Society Board of Directors and its committees, including the Heritage Committee. The ARO will partner with the University of Minnesota Foundation Annual Giving team and Leadership Annual Giving team to grow the school's annual and leadership annual giving donor base.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Alumni Relations Program and Alumni Engagement: 50%

  • Relationship Building and Volunteer Management.
  • Develop and maintain engagement with School of Nursing (SON) alumni upon graduation.
    Provide management and support to the Alumni Society Board members at Alumni Board meetings, committee meetings and Alumni Society Board events.
    Oversee the recruitment and training of volunteers.
  • Event Management
  • Oversee the planning and production of the annual SON All School Reunion, in collaboration with the Alumni Society Board.
    Serve as the primary point of contact for the SON All School Reunion.
  • Provide direction to the University of Minnesota Foundation M Events Registration Services team in their management of registration and RSVP services for SON Development and Alumni Relations' signature events.
  • Work with the SON Alumni Society Board and other volunteer leaders to envision and create new events locally and nationally in hybrid, in-person and online formats.

Annual Giving and Donor Stewardship: 50%

  • Lead and direct the annual giving (gifts under $25K) function for the school, including but not limited to:
    • Collaborate with the University of Minnesota Foundation's (UMF) Direct Marketing and Leadership Annual Giving teams to develop a yearly retention and acquisition program that will expand and deepen the school's annual donor pipeline, with the objective for annual 3%+ growth year over year in donors and dollars.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for Give to the Max Day and Student Support Day crowdfunding campaigns.
    • Create customized content, in partnership with the University of Minnesota Foundation Direct Marketing team, for digital and direct mail appeals and crowdfunding campaigns.
    • Collaborate with the SON Strategic Communications team to develop donor and alumni updates for magazine content and social media messaging and other content.
    • Lead the management of the school's scholarship recipient-written gratitude letters and stewardship reports for donors.
    • Maintain accurate and relevant records within the University of Minnesota Foundation database.
    • Participate in the team's signature events, special projects and other duties and assignments as needed.
    • File timely contact reports, maintain accurate records and provide updated information in the Donor Management System.
