This position will oversee the successful delivery and implementation of company projects supported by public sector investments, and assist with other rail project delivery as required. The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful execution, monitoring and reporting of grant-funded initiatives. This position will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including grantors, project partners and stakeholders, consultants, and internal multi-disciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, and meet project goals and objectives within scope and within budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Grant Management:
    • In coordination with the Chief Policy Officer and the Director Public Affairs who has responsibility for grant pursuit, assist with identifying and developing successful grant application strategies and submissions.
    • Assist as required with all grant application processes to ensure that if awarded grant projects will be delivered in compliance with application commitments and grantor requirements.
    • Manage awarded grant budgets, monitor expenses and ensure proper allocation of funds, in coordination with internal finance, legal engineering and other offices, and company consultants.
    • Prepare grant reports, documentation and reimbursable expense submission and documentation, with the support as allocated of external company consultants, in accordance with grantor requirements.
  • Project Planning & Execution:
    • Based on up-front input and participation provided during the company pursuit and application process, for awarded projects develop detailed project plans outlining project goals, timeliness, resources, and deliverables.
    • Coordinate project activities, tasks, and milestones to ensure timely completion.
    • Assign responsibilities to internal and external project team members and provide guidance as needed.
    • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for grantors, providing regular updates on project status and performance.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of project objectives and successful project delivery.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with grant requirements, regulations and reporting deadlines.
    • Maintain accurate records of project activities, expenditures, and outcomes.
    • Prepare and submit timely progress reports, financial reports, reimbursement requests, and other documentation as required by grantors.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices in grant management.
    • Conduct post-project evaluations to assess project outcomes, identify lessons learned, and make recommendations for future projects.
  • Additional Duties
    • Support other non-grant Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) project implementation and delivery with the internal Strategic Growth Team as required.
    • Assist with project pursuit (both Grant and ROIC) initiatives where requested, in order to ensure successful future delivery of projects that proceed.
    • Available for travel as required for direct site and stakeholder engagement in support of project management initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelors Degree in business management, project management, or a related field preferred
  • 7+ years of project management experience
  • Proven experience managing government grant-funded projects.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state grant regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in project management software/tools.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Experience working with USDOT, EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, and state DOTs and local agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Driver's License
