Are you ready for a challenge? Come join our team of professionals in a challenging and rewarding position as a Revenue Auditor for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue's (DOR), Local Government Services Bureau, State and Local Finance Division (SLF).

As a Revenue Auditor, you will be primarily responsible for the administration and education of programs of Chapter 79, Wis. Stats. and will assist in implementing the newly approved Innovation Grant Program for Counties and Municipalities. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a range of people, including municipal and county officials and taxpayers.

This project position is a permanent appointment, authorized through June 30, 2028. After the project is completed, the duties may varyThe positions are headquartered in Madison at the State Revenue Building on Rimrock Road. A flexible schedule is available at the start date and hybrid remote work (office and telework) schedule may be available after three months.

Position Summary

These Revenue Auditor positions serve as shared revenue and state aids books and records auditors in the Local Government Services Bureau. The positions are responsible for administering the innovation planning grant program, and state aid distributions to qualifying taxation districts, including distributions made under Chapter 79, Wis. Stats. This position also administers levy limit programs for municipalities and counties, the maintenance of effort program, and provides outreach and education to local government officials.

Salary Information

The starting pay rate for each level under pay schedule-range 07-03 is:

  • Revenue Auditor 2 – $29.00 to $34.75 an hour ($60,320 and $72,280 annually)
  • Revenue Auditor 3 – $33.50 to $38.50 an hour ($69,680 and $80,080 annually)

Current state employees’ pay is based on the provisions in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

The level of the position offered will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected candidate at the time of hire.

 

Remote/Telework is available as follows:

  • After three months of employment – up to two days per week
  • After six months of employment – up to 60% within a 2-week pay period
  • Approval of telecommuting during an original probationary period is the supervisor's discretion based on employee performance and business needs 
  • When teleworking is allowed, on in-office days, you must report to our 2135 Rimrock Road, Madison, WI building.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in accounting, auditing, or a similar field of study or the equivalent training and experience (e.g. analysis of financial statements/reports, auditing accounting records, cost accounting, etc.); and
  • Experience interpreting statutes, administrative rules, or financial policy guidelines.

Additionally, well-qualified applicants will have:

  • Training or experience administering grant programs; or
  • Experience auditing or reviewing tax returns, financial statements, or local government documents.
