The starting base salary range for a Dental Group Underwriter is $42,000 to $68,000. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

Group Underwriter II Overview

  • Provide west coast underwriting services in the Pacific Time Zone
  • Conducts risk assessment and selection for small to mid-sized case market Dental products.
  • Produces rates for new groups (small to mid-sized cases) using company proposal system.
  • Prepares formal proposals and renewals using word processing, spreadsheet tools and software as applicable.
  • Verifies rates on sold cases as required.
  • Completes financial exhibits using established guidelines and under direction from the Underwriting Manager.

Essential Duties

  • Assesses risk and produces rates for new groups with moderate autonomy
  • Completes annual renewals for all products and performs related maintenance tasks
  • Services current group clients including benefit changes, reporting, and response to telephone and email inquiries
  • Verifies sold case data including final rating
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of group insurance and dental and /or health insurance products
  • Understanding of underwriting principles and rating methodology
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a math related field preferred; related experience can substitute
  • 1 year of underwriting experience
  • Or, equivalent military experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a math related field
  • LOMA, HIAA
  • 2 or more years of underwriting experience
