Job Description









Associate Underwriter - S&S Excess / Umbrella, Wholesale

The Associate Underwriter works closely with his/her manager and underwriters to provide umbrella/excess casualty underwriter support within the standards and time frames in adherence to specific guidelines and procedures within the Excess, Umbrella Wholesale Division.

Department: Surplus & Specialty

Primary Location: Hybrid, Morristown, NJ

Duties and Assignments:

    Assist the underwriting team to evaluate and triage new business against strategy and guidelines as needed within assigned team.
  • Handle assigned renewals, under direction, with a limited letter of authority.
  • Handle binders as needed and assigned within team.
  • Build skills to make underwriting decisions and maintain proper file documentation.
  • Assist with endorsement processing and all accounting issues as they are needed.
  • Assist with pricing needs and/or quote proposals, under direction and as needed, within the assigned underwriting team.
  • May pursue industry designations via coursework completed during on-the-job training.
  • May participate in projects.
  • Proactively acquires knowledge and skill.
  • Travel required, at a minimal.
  • Other assigned duties.

Recommended Education and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, along with 1+ year of Property & Casualty experience.
  • Pursuing insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, CRIS, etc. a plus.
  • Possesses strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Self directed
  • Proficient computer skills and use of Microsoft Office Program (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $50,900 to a maximum of $84,900. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
