We are looking for a Commercial Analytics and Data Science Manager to join the Commercial Insights and Analytics team, which is part of 10x's Commercial organization. The position/role will play a critical part in developing analytics and insights for Commercial, Sales, and Marketing leadership and will be based in Pleasanton, CA.

The Commercial Analytics and Data Science Manager will support strategic commercial teams with data driven analysis and recommendations for segmentation, targeting, planning, etc. This is a cross functional role that will collaborate across Commercial teams (sales, marketing, tech support, commercial operations, etc.)l, Finance, and Productivity Engineering (PE/IT) to accomplish analytics related tasks and activities. The Commercial Analytics and Data Science Manager will also support upleveling of existing data science and analytics capabilities to the next level.

What you will be doing:

  • Sales Analytics:
    • Design analysis/analytical frameworks and execute a data driven approach to provide insights and address questions from commercial leadership (i.e. CCO, SVP/VP Sales and Marketing, Key sales leadership, etc.).
    • Analyze options, create scenarios, and build business cases and recommendations that support business decisions.
  • Forecasting and Quota Planning:
    • Support the business leadership in developing data driven approach to forecasting and territory quota planning at the product (instrument/consumable/software) and geographic level.
    • Leverage existing tools, processes, and develop enhancements where needed to meet business needs to efficiency.

  • Sales Force Design:
    • Support the business with analytics and insights into sales force design and structure. Be able to address questions around proactively and reactively - e.g. when do we need to expand/contract sales teams and by how much and where.
    • Measure ROI and impact of sales teams and develop insights to support sales leadership in coaching/training and improving sales force effectiveness.

  • Sales Force Performance Measurement:
    • Responsible for developing and maintaining KPIs and performance indicators at the sales rep, district, region, and global level.
    • Be able to address key questions such as: is revenue per territory increasing/decreasing over time, impact of vacant territories, how has sales force activities contributed or not to overall conversion of non-customers to customers/customer growth.

  • Ad-hoc analytics:
    • Support C-suite and SVP leadership with answers to key strategic questions by working with Marketing Analytics, and Corporate Strategy as required.
    • Support identification, sizing, and evaluation of market segments and future market opportunities, analyzing business performance, and provide data-driven guidance to guide commercial strategic initiatives.
  • Other:
    • Maintain a list of analytics requests from stakeholders, and over time organize and map out requests to frameworks/data for the purpose of developing systems/tools to make analysis better, faster, cheaper to execute. Work with stakeholder groups to develop plan and manage implementation.
    • Work with other Sales Analytics team members and leadership to prioritize tasks and manage workload to ensure success.

Minimum Requirements:

  • General
    • BS/MS/PhD in STEM or quantitative field (CS, Applied Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research) and/or BS/MBA in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics (preferred both)
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in analytics and/or strategic role ideally in the life sciences, genomics, or biopharmaceutical industries or strategy consulting experience from a top-tier firm.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to execute analysis and make sound business judgments/rationale.
    • Exceptionally strong work ethic, project management, and prioritization skills
    • Self-starting and ability to operate independently.
    • Proven ability to turn data analysis into actionable business insights and recommendations while balancing the requirements of statistical rigor/accuracy with business concerns (eg. speed and interpretability)
    • Excellent problem-framing, problem solving and project management skills in an unstructured environment and ability to change direction quickly.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, ability to present to senior management and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Technical skills
    • Advanced knowledge of SQL and experience with commercial and emerging databases, technologies, and languages
    • Applied statistics and machine learning experience (regression analysis, time series, probabilistic models, supervised and unsupervised methods)
    • Proficiency in Python and experience with data analysis and ML libraries and frameworks, application frameworks like Django and Flask
    • Deep understanding of architecture and process of data moving through first and third-party enterprise systems including the conceptual/logical/physical data models, data pipelines, data warehouse, and semantic layer
    • Experience with effective data visualization and reporting using enterprise tools including Tableau and open-source Python libraries like Plotly and Bokeh
    • Highly proficient in Excel (i.e. data transformation, power pivot, etc.) and/or Google sheets

Preferred Background and Experience:

  • Prior consulting experience (ex-ZS, ex-Accenture, ex-McKinsey, etc.)

Below is the base pay range for this full time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one's skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company's total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x's equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program. Pay Range$130,000—$176,000 USD
