The service you will work in...

Working in a recovery focused, trauma informed way, Kent and Medway Recovery House (KMRH) is a psychologically informed 5 bed house where adult residents of Kent and Medway can stay for up to 7 days, if they are experiencing a mental health crisis, as an alternative to using statutory services. You will support individuals throughout their stay by carrying out support and interventions in line with organisational values and the ethos of recovery and co-production, as well as in line with policies and procedures

A day in this role looks like….

As a  Recovery Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Mental Health & Complex Needs Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • To support service users from the moment of referral and intake to the Recovery House, ensuring that they are inducted into the building and that their immediate physical and emotional needs are met
  • To liaise with clinical staff e.g. Home Treatment Team's, to ensure that admission to the crisis house is smooth and effective
  • To provide support to service users using Hestia's KMRH to reduce their crisis by offering a range of activities and interventions within the service
  • To motivate service users to identify causes of crises and to prevent these issues triggering crisis in the future
  • To develop simple and effective safety plans with the individual users to proactively manage their mental health and wellbeing and to avoid the use of crisis services such as A&E
  • To carry out individual one to one sessions with service users and, where appropriate, to support them to develop their own wellness recovery action plans and set smart goals
  • To assist service users to develop their social networks in order to attend mainstream or specialist educational, leisure and health related activities to support positive mental health and wellbeing in the future
  • To support with life skills development for service users such as food preparation and cooking
  • To liaise effectively with statutory providers and other voluntary sector agencies involved in the support and / or treatment of service users
  • To actively participate in continued professional development and regular reflective practice to be able to support service users with a range of mental health issues and associated impacts including thoughts of self-harm, drug and alcohol use and behaviour which may be experienced as challenging
  • To take an active role in supervision, reflective practice, appraisals, team meetings and other support mechanisms with the Team Leader / Service Manager in order to maintain resilience to be effective in this challenging yet highly rewarding environment – these may take place outside of your Rota'd hours. 
  • To work closely with the Management Team and KMRH Recovery Worker colleagues to provide a whole team approach to service users using the service. 
  • To promote and publicise the service appropriately in line with the service Communication and Engagement Plan with support from the Team Leader and Service Manage. 
  • To engage in support and well-being activities for service users who have left the Recovery House by way of a tailor made, co-produced welfare package for a defined period of time.
  • To ensure that individual rooms are maintained to a high standard in between service user admissions

  • The motivation to maintain consistently high delivery standards and service user standards, even when faced with unpredictable behaviour and potentially challenging situations
  • Ability to engage service users in assessments and to co-produce, implement, record, review and audit support and safety assessment plans
  • Excellent stakeholder relationship building
