Job Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities will be assumed by the Business Manager:

  1. Financial accounting and reporting; oversight and analysis of all receipts and expenditures of First Christian Church funds, including our Mothers’ Day Out/Preschool program and Columbia Older Adult Ministry program.
  2. Abide by all church policies and procedures, especially: Financial Operating Policy (FOP), Investment Policy, Bidding Policy.
  3. Prepare all financial reports and other reports in accurate, timely manner as needed by the Treasurer, Stewardship & Finance Department, clergy, staff, officers, committees, departments, Permanent Fund Trustees, and Board.
  4. Perform general bookkeeping functions and other tasks as directed by the FOP, Board, Cabinet, Stewardship and Finance Committee and ministers.
  5. Provide monthly and annual financial reports.
  6. Post all financial entries in QuickBooks.
  7. Post all charitable giving to insure proper reporting per IRS regulations.
  8. Provide Accounts Payable and disbursements support including:
    • Receiving and processing all invoices
    • Receive and process all other check requests
    • Preparing checks, using QuickBooks, for Approval by ministers or the treasurer and authorized signers.
  9. Serve as the primary liaison between the Permanent Fund Trustees and the Permanent Fund Managers, including updating monthly statements on all Permanent Funds, coordinating transactions between Memorial Accounts and Permanent Funds, etc.
  10. Acknowledging all Memorial account, pledges, and other gifts with appropriate gratitude, recognition, and record keeping.
  11. Oversee all janitorial-supply purchases and pickup.
  12. Maintain Human Resources records and oversee payroll administration for church staff.
  13. Prepare, with the assistance of department chairs and ministers, the annual church budget.
  14. Assist the Stewardship and Finance Committee with the annual Pledge Campaign.
  15. Oversight of Property; work with Property Department in maintenance contracts and property leases; supervision and contracting with yard maintenance vendor for the care of church building and grounds; and supervision of outside contractors working on property and grounds.
  16. Coordinating with the Office Manager to assist the Minister in the disbursement of discretionary funds and other resources for members and those in need.
  17. Coordination of office volunteers, including recruiting and training volunteers for counting weekly offerings, answering the telephone, and other office work as needed.
  18. Other duties as needed and assigned.

Supervision and Team Member:

The Business Manager will work under the supervision of the Senior Minister. The Business Manager works closely with a small team of fulltime employees and must get along with the team, working especially close with the Office Manager who shares the same open, office space.

Coordination with Boards and Committees (Departments):

The Business Manager will coordinate with the applicable Administrative Board, Committees, Permanent Fund Trustees, and Departments of the church. The Business Manager must be proficient in relating and working with volunteers.

Other Qualifications:

Must be computer-literate, experienced in the use of financial accounting software, capable of working in a team-oriented environment, and is expected to work with limited clerical support.

Time Requirements:

This is a full-time, management/supervisory position which is exempt from overtime, and may require weekend and evening hours.  Specific hours will be coordinated with the Senior Minister. Must attend evening meetings for: Stewardship & Finance, Property, Cabinet, and Administrative Board. Office Hours are: 8:00 to Noon and 1:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary - $50,000 per year
  • 14% Contribution to the Pension Fund of the Christian Church, which includes both retirement and long-term disability benefits
  • Paid health insurance through the church’s provider
  • Two weeks paid vacation for the first five years of employment; after five years employment, three weeks paid vacation; and after ten years employment, four weeks paid vacation.
  • Eight (8) paid holiday days.

This position is subject to the Personnel Handbook of the church for non-ministerial employees.
