How often has your agency tried to recruit a recent college grad or student only to lose them to a corporate employer because of higher pay, nicer offices, or a more exciting brand?

Lost in that struggle is the reality that you’re better off losing the candidate who is going to choose a career path based upon who pays the most. Let’s face it, you’re never going to win that battle. You need to identify your advantages and then communicate those to the candidates who are most receptive and therefore the most likely to work for you in the short- and long-term.

So what’s one of the federal government’s biggest advantages? The Pathways Programs. Unlike the need to “hit the ground running” that so many corporate employers require of young adults, the Pathways Programs offer clear paths to federal internships and meaningful training and career development opportunities for people who are at the beginning of their federal service.
