LGBT business owner shares benefits of being open in the workplace

Before starting a business, people face various challenges. LGBT business owners face their own obstacles too. Learning how to tell others who they are is one of them. Once owners do, they can benefit personally.

To help explore these issues, College Recruiter recently hosted a College Recruiting Bootcamp on LGBT and other diversity hiring issues on Tuesday, September 29, at the Twilio headquarters in San Francisco.

Accommodating LGBTQ Employees with Dress Code Modifications

Most employers’ lists of policies and procedures include a dress code for employees. However, employers should be sensitive to LGBTQ employees and candidates when creating and enforcing the dress code. No bias should exist with how employees and candidates dress. They should dress based on their gender identities, and reflect a professional appearance in the workplace.

LGBTQ equality in STEM workforce

A recent press release discusses a new project with the Rowan University Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering in New Jersey partnering with other universities to advance LGBTQ equality in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Research shows that STEM students and professionals are not as comfortable on campus compared to students and professionals in other fields. The project also promotes a diverse workforce in STEM fields by encouraging LGBTQ equality through recruitment efforts.
