Imagine a future where cars drive themselves. Accidents are a thing of the past, all automobiles on the road communicate to move in perfect synchrony. Travel distance between the workplace and home is almost a nonfactor because you can sleep or do work while your car takes you to where you need to be.

Alas, this future is still a ways off, at least until Google’s cars can figure out how to deal with rain and snow. Until self-driving cars become mainstream, we’re stuck with spending hours behind the wheel wasting precious time and raging at poor drivers around us. New research shows that when it comes to employees requesting flextime, managers favor men over women. This is not exactly encouraging news. Researchers from The University of Texas, Yale and Harvard asked managers how they would respond to requests for a flexible schedule (in the form of a shift in work hours)

How Recent College Grads Can Negotiate Starting Salaries

Professionals shaking handsIn a recent study, nearly half of employers reported they would pay recent college graduates $30,000 to $49,999 this year, and 25 percent reported they would pay $50,000 or more. When asked what they would be willing to negotiate when extending a job offer to a recent college graduate, 27 percent of employers said they would consider increasing starting salaries and a significant number said they would also be willing to negotiate other hard benefits such as tuition reimbursement and bonuses or soft benefits such as flexible schedules and telecommuting opportunities.
