Career Advice for Job Seekers
How does ChatGPT change the process of searching for a job for college students and recent graduates?
There’s been much in the news recently — as well as a lot of nervous conversations in workplaces — about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the kinds of work we’ll all be doing in the years to come and even how we find that work. We decided to go straight to the source and ask the AI itself, namely ChatGPT. Here’s what it told us:
As an AI language model, ChatGPT can provide college students and recent graduates with a range of resources and guidance to help them in their job search. Here are some ways in which ChatGPT can change the process of searching for a job:
- Resume and Cover Letter Writing: ChatGPT can assist with writing a professional resume and cover letter that highlights your skills, experiences, and education. It can provide suggestions for keywords, formatting, and overall structure.
- Job Search Strategies: ChatGPT can provide advice on where to search for jobs, how to filter job search results, and how to apply for jobs effectively. It can also help identify specific job search strategies that may be relevant to the industry or field you are interested in.
- Interview Preparation: ChatGPT can help you prepare for interviews by providing examples of common interview questions and tips on how to answer them. It can also provide insights on the company culture and its expectations for interviews.
- Career Exploration: ChatGPT can help you explore potential career paths based on your skills, interests, and values. It can provide information about the job outlook, salary expectations, and education requirements for different careers.
- Networking: ChatGPT can provide tips on how to network and build professional relationships, which can help you learn about job opportunities and make valuable connections.
Overall, ChatGPT can provide college students and recent graduates with personalized guidance and resources to help them navigate the job search process more effectively.
Notice that nowhere in ChatGPT’s advice about how college and university students can use it to find part-time, seasonal, internship, or other early career job opportunities is there a discussion of taking either the red or blue pill. Unless I’m mistaken, that’s not a decision we’ll need to make for at least another few years.
