Advice for Employers and Recruiters

3 tips from the CEO of SelectSoftware Reviews on how employers can create an attractive remote environment

College Recruiter recently asked employers for their tips on creating an attractive remote work environment. Here are three tips from Phil Strazzulla, the Founder and CEO of SelectSoftware Reviews:

  1. One of my favorite ways that businesses can make their companies more employee centric is to use employee engagement software. These programs help track employee productivity metrics and help reward good behaviors. Motivating employees can be a bit time-consuming for business managers, so using an automated engagement software can keep employees eager and willing to do the right thing on the job. It’s also a great way to consistently thank employees for their hard work in a way that doesn’t get old or repetitive.
  2. Next, businesses can use Teams or Slack channels to help employees network and come together. While no manager wants to see employees slacking off and chatting in Slack all day, it can help boost camaraderie and help a new employee feel like part of the team. As long as there are clear expectations (and fair punishments for violating those expectations) this can be a great way to help build a strong work culture.
  3. Finally, team-building events outside of work can help someone feel like they’re part of a cohesive unit. This can include barbecues, happy hours, or fun events for employees near one another. I also like the idea of group efforts, like logging miles to accomplish a group goal (like walking around the world.) While these may feel or appear campy, they can really help teammates bond with one another.

Building community in a remote work environment isn’t always intuitive, but it’s almost always worth the effort.
