College Recruiter recently asked career experts for their tips regarding how to hire students, recent grads, and others as the job market and rest of the economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Below are tips from Beka Crocket, Director of the Career Development Center at Middle Tennessee State University:
- Think about building relevancy on campus and engaging at multiple levels with students—classrooms, events, etc. Also, understand the student life cycle and align your hiring needs around when students are graduating; thus, recruitment for entry-level positions should start a few months before graduation.
- Follow up as fast as possible with candidates even if the answer is No. In this day and age, everyone is connected to an electronic device. People seek confirmation if they are moving forward in the process or not, especially if you are a target company for a job seeker.
- In addition to posting a job, reach out to a more extensive network to help advertise for you, including Social Media. In the age of LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook, people seek information everywhere; if they see your position more than once, you continue to build relevancy and interest and thus draw a larger pool.
