Advice for Employers and Recruiters
3 tips for recruiting and hiring a diverse workforce
Diversity is an important topic in today’s workforce. Employers recognize that recruiting and hiring people with unique perspectives and ideas helps them grow.
To help explore these issues, College Recruiter recently hosted a College Recruiting Bootcamp on LGBT and other diversity hiring issues on Tuesday, September 29, at the Twilio headquarters in San Francisco.
College Recruiter has been publishing the opinions from a number of talent acquisition and recruiting leaders about why and how employers should diversify their workforces. Employers should keep in mind these three tips for creating a diverse workforce, shared by Val Matta, Vice President of Business Development at CareerShift.
“The best way to diversify your workforce is simple: start looking for employees in new places. Repeatedly listing your open job positions on the same websites is not going to reach a different pool of candidates. Try new tactics like reaching out to universities or creating a social media recruiting campaign.”
“Another point that’s important in diversifying is clearly defining what your goals are. Are you trying to have a workforce with a broader skill set or one that represents the whole cultural spectrum? Identifying what you want your workforce to be like will help you realize how to reach those candidates.”
“My final tip would be to develop a more flexible benefits package. Diverse people are attracted to jobs for different reasons. Just because Mary prefers having more vacation days doesn’t mean Jack does.”
