Getting your dream job, whether it’s being a software developer for Apple or a sketch artist for Disney, can be difficult these days, considering the economic realities the world faces. Nonetheless, you can increase your chances of getting your desired career position with these six simple, but powerful methods.

Know the Industry

General knowledge of the field you want to enter can only help you reach the doormat of colleges and universities. Specific industry knowledge will help you make important career decisions as you bump into them later on. Does your prospected job position require a bachelor or master’s degree? Will you be able to take on entry-level positions with a 2-year background? How much experience do you need to even be considered by the company you are eyeing to get into? How many qualified applicants are you competing against for the position? These are important questions you should be able to answer so you can reach your career goals.

Be Likable

Getting your dream job should also be pleasant for the people you’re going to work with for the next several months or years. Have a likable personality and avoid any negative thoughts or actions. Although thinking positive is good, your body language should also express it. Practice humility while also asserting confidence. Nobody wants to work for or with someone who is negative all the time, hates their job or is unreliable.

Identify Your Flaws

What areas need improvement? Personality-wise, ask your family members and friends. You will likely collect a great deal of opinion and advice from them. Start working on these character traits while also honing your strengths. Aside from personality, you may also exhibit flaws in your resume, which is the first point of contact between you and the company. If you have doubts about your resume, ask a professor or mentor to evaluate it.

Get the Right Education

Using the research you’ve collected regarding the industry, find a good educational institution that will lay the foundation for your career path. Programs from colleges like Interactive College of Technology can provide the classroom knowledge and hands-on skills that you will need to apply for work in the competitive tech industry. Be sure that the college of your choice offers the right programs, internships and opportunities for the field you want to work in.

Knowing the right people and being at the right place at the right time can easily turn into a dream job offer. Go out and attend events like seminars and fundraisers to meet people that specialize in your industry.

Create Lasting Relationships

Meeting people is half the battle when it comes to effective networking. Create lasting relationships, so that career opportunities do not die out after your last email or text message to the other person.

Landing your dream job can be a reality with these simple tips. With a little effort, you can get the experience and education needed to excel in your career.
