In today’s world of modern technology, employers are not limited to conducting traditional face-to-face job interviews.  Video interviews are one option they can take advantage of, as these interviews are convenient for both the employers and the job candidates.  If you are a candidate, though, you must still prepare yourself as you would for any interview.  To help prepare you for this important meeting, check out the following tips.

Focus on your face – Position your webcam so that you are seen from the midsection above.  You don’t want the interviewer to be distracted by anything else.

Make eye contact – This is important.  It is tempting to look at your monitor to see the interviewer; however, make sure you look into the webcam so he or she knows you are making eye contact.  Otherwise, you could be interpreted as uninterested in the job and the company itself.

Check the setting – Before your video interview, check your setting to be sure that everything is working properly.  Test the lighting and sound, as well as clean up your background.  Taking the time to do these things will make it less likely to have any mishaps during your interview.

Dress to impress – Just because you are not face-to-face with an interviewer doesn’t mean you should not dress like a professional.  After all, your appearance is an important part of making a great impression.

Do your research – Go to the company website and social media pages to learn more about your potential employer.  This will give you an idea of what to expect as a potential employee and prepare you for interview questions that may be asked.

Ask questions – From your research, come up with some questions to ask for the interview.  The interviewer will be impressed with your knowledge and further interest in his or her company.

Job candidates should be aware that video job interviews are being used by employers.  Even though these interviews may not be face-to-face, they must also be taken seriously.  With the right preparation, you can leave an impression that shows you’re the best candidate for the job.
