Okay, it is almost time for your job interview, and you are prepared for the big day, right?  However, did you remember to create a list of interview questions?  If not, then it is a good idea to do so.  If your interview goes well and there is time, you may be able to ask some questions.  As a job candidate, this is your chance to impress the interviewer and show more interest in a particular job, as well as the company itself.  Here are some questions to consider asking for your interview.

What do you want in the ideal candidate? – Asking this question can help you learn more about the kind of person an employer is looking to hire.  For example, you could get information on the skills and qualities necessary to do the job.  In addition, you just might gain some insight beyond the job description that can give you the edge over the competition.

Where does your company want to be in the next year and in the long-term? – This question tells your potential employer that you want to assist in achieving goals in both the short-term and the long-term.  Listen to what the interviewer says, and respond in a way that gives him or her confidence in your ability to succeed.  Try telling a story to accomplish this task.

What challenges come with this job? – By asking this question, an employer knows you know there are challenges in the position.  You leave a positive impression that you want to take on and solve any issues that arise in the future.  Here is an opportunity for you to discuss your approach in handling a challenge in a previous job, which can be a model for the job you have applied for.

Is there a question you want to ask me? – This question gives the interviewer a chance to ask you something he or she did not ask during the interview.  It also shows that you have nothing to hide.

What difference can I make if hired for this job? – As a potential employee, you want to bring value to a company.  You can get some feedback concerning the importance of your role by asking this question.

Can I explain why I am the right person to hire? – While there might be many candidates for one specific job, asking this question allows you to stand out.  Highlight how your skills, experience, and qualifications relate to the job, and how you can make it better.

When preparing for your job interview, be sure to put together a list of good questions.  They will be handy if you are asked for them, but also show the interviewer how much more interest you have in a job and the company itself.  Good luck in your interview!

If you knew a recruiter or hiring manager, right before your job interview was about to end, was going to ask a question that would set you apart from all other candidates, wouldn’t you do everything you could to prepare? Of course you would. And of course they will. At some point
