When you are pursuing a degree or diploma, it can sometimes be difficult to find time for all the studying you need to do. Work, family, and your social life can sometimes get in the way of studying for your classes. If you are wondering how to fit in study around your busy work life, follow these six simple tips.

Study What You Love

If you enjoy what you are studying, you will be much more likely to want to make the time for it. Unfortunately, this is not always possible. You will undoubtedly come across at least a few classes that you just don’t care for. Try to balance these classes with ones that you find more interesting to help keep you motivated.

Enlist a Friend

Find a study buddy in your classes, and help keep each other motivated. Not will studying with a partner make it more fun, it is much harder to put off studying when you have another person to be accountable to. Go over flash cards over a cup of tea, or bounce ideas off each other over the phone. A study partner is also an invaluable asset, because they may be able to help explain difficult concepts, facilitating deeper understanding.

Make an Appointment

Plan ahead of time how often you will need to study, and mark the days on your calendar. Treat your study sessions like you would any other appointment, and don’t let yourself skip out. Set an alarm on your mobile phone and make sure not to schedule any conflicting appointments. Treat your scheduled study session like the important appointment that it is. If you must cancel for some reason, be sure to reschedule as soon as possible.

Use Downtime Wisely

Bring flash cards and your notes wherever you go. That way, you will be able to study whenever you have a few minutes. Waiting on your doctor in the waiting room? Study. Have a few minutes between work and classes? Study. Riding to work on the underground? Study. If you bring your study materials with you wherever you go, you will never miss an opportunity to get a few minutes of studying in.

Avoid Distractions

There are many distractions all around you. If you find that you are not getting as much work done as you expected, it may be because you are getting distracted. Turn off the television, silence your mobile phone, and stay off social media while you are studying.

Start Early

You should be studying from day one. Don’t wait until the night before your final exam to study. You’ll wind up staying up all night, and won’t retain very much information. When you begin studying early on, you don’t need to devote as much time to it all at once. Spreading your studying out not only makes it easier to find the time, but also aids in retention. You are actually more likely to remember the information if you study a little bit on a regular basis, than all in one chunk.

No matter what you are learning, it is important to study. Whether you have enrolled for an online distance learning course from an institution such as NCC Home Learning, it is important that you stay on top of your studies, and don’t fall behind. The most important thing to remember is that there is no right answer. What works for one person may not for another. When you are wondering how to fit in study around your busy work life, consider these six tips as a starting point and do what works best for you.
