Despite what you see in the movies, students’ lives do not consist entirely of partying, getting wasted and suffering from hangovers afterwards. There are also such things as actual learning and earning some extra money to support yourself through college, with the latter generally being the major concern.

However, the fact that we live in the Internet age makes things a whole lot easier, because it opens up many opportunities to earn decent amounts of cash without wasting a lot of time and getting an official part-time job. You may not only find an opportunity to telecommute, you may start your own small business! Here we will talk about some of these opportunities, allowing you to support yourself without taking a break from your studies.

1. Online Surveys

Paid online surveys are getting more and more popular with both large and small companies – they all want to know the opinion of their potential clients to tailor their marketing strategy, products and suchlike to better suit them. And they are ready to pay for the privilege of learning your opinion about them!

Sign up with a paid survey panel and start answering questions. Just don’t try to become eligible for each and every survey by lying about your status – fraud is quickly discovered, and you will be banned.

2. Reseller Hosting

You think that Internet hosting business is a big and scary thing that is completely outside your reach? It has been so for a long time, yes, but the recent upsurge of reseller hosting considerably changed the situation on the market. The business model is as follows: a big hosting company sells space on its servers piecemeal to smaller hosting providers who, in turn, sell this space in their own name or in the name of the original company.

To start reseller hosting you simply have to subscribe to a reseller plan (which provides a lot of bonuses when compared to regular hosting contracts) with one of large hosting providers – and then sell the space you acquire to the best of your abilities. No special knowledge is necessary.

3. Matched Betting

Betting may not look like a very sound proposition for getting money, but we are not talking usual betting here. The secret is in making matched bets for all possible outcomes of the event, so that your risks are either minimized or eliminated. It is safe, legal, not very time-consuming and not all that hard after you get the knack of it.

4. YouTube Videos

YouTube is constantly growing in popularity, and advertisers learnt about it first. Moreover, video content is more popular than texts, which means that a popular YouTube channel may be more profitable than a blog with similar number of visitors. By participating in YouTube Partner Program one can earn real money by making and uploading videos and receiving a percentage of advertising revenue.

5. Become a Mechanical Turk

Becoming a Mechanical Turk may be an option in case you don’t have time for freelance work. While freelancers usually specialize, Mechanical Turks hire themselves out to perform HITs (these are Human Intelligence Tasks, in case you thought something else) – one-time tasks that do not easily fall into any freelance category: anything from finding information and making photos to writing articles and transcribing audio recordings. The pay is usually pretty meagre, but there are always some harder and better-paid assignments – not enough for a stable income but a good way to earn an extra buck every now and then.

Student or not, there are always opportunities to earn money around you – and the Internet makes finding them way easier. If you want to make money, there are hundreds of creative ways to do so – experiment, and you’ll eventually hit the jackpot.
