Choosing the best profession can be a daunting affair especially in modern times. Though there is prevalence of information, you might be lost with choices, as all careers look promising at a glance. Real estate still is a lucrative profession and you can create an excellent career with the right information.

Before getting insight on how to excel as a real estate agent, it is good to get a glimpse of what it offers. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projected an 11.1% growth in the industry from 2012 to 2022. With an expected increase in home sales, you can bet this is an untapped profession.

Nevertheless, that’s not all, interest rates in real estate haven fallen so you can expect more property sales and as the facilitator you will be getting a lot of business. For you to succeed as a real agent however, you have to work hard in order to fulfill some of these stringent conditions:

  • High school diploma: This is a very analytical career and hence most states expect you to have completed high school and graduated. Of course, this means you must be about 18-19 years old.
  • Pre-licensing training: Not everyone can make it in real estate and to separate the wheat from the chaff you must undergo rigorous pre-licensing courses. The number of hours varies from state to state. For example, Idaho requires 2-college level courses amounting to 90 hours while Texas requires 180 classroom hours.
  • Work as an affiliate agent: For you to become a real estate agent in most states, you must first work with a licensed broker. You will undergo three years of an internship under these professionals in order to hone your skills.
  • Pass state and national exams: This is a requirement to ensure you have mastered this trade. You will have to take more hours of educational training before finally taking the exam. While this may vary depending on the state, it is a requirement for you to receive licensing.
  • Get licensed and register with National Association of REALTORS: This is one of the greatest achievements for any real estate agent as you can now practice without limitations.
  • Create a strong portfolio through networking: Real estate requires a lot of hard work and sacrifice in order to gain and retain business. For you to be successful, be ready to service your clients diligently, honestly and reliably. What’s more, you must create lasting relationships with clients in order to build a strong client base.
  • Go for further training: You can major in different courses through continuing education programs, which are readily available in different colleges. This helps you augment your skills and become a force to reckon with in the industry.
