$300 Cash Contest for Best Short Video on Voter ID Law

September 27, 2012

Our Vote Our Future logoThe Coalition for Voting MN (CoVM) is seeking videos to educate, move, engage, enrage, and motivate voters to oppose the proposed amendment of Minnesota’s constitution to require voters to present government-issued photo identification to a Minnesota election official.

CoVM is looking for videos that contain a strong emotional appeal and/or fact based messages to counter the overblown/false anxieties about voter fraud. Don’t tell us who may be disenfranchised by Voter ID – show us. Funny is good. Reference to the cost to implement voter ID is good. Information on the integrity of current voting system is good (why fix something that isn’t broken?). Submissions outside of Twin Cities metro are especially sought so send this to your friends who live outstate.

Winners will be announced at an event, The Other No Vote on October 14th at the Louisiana Cafe in St. Paul at 5:30 pm. (Winners do not need to be present.) Winning videos will be posted on OurVoteOurFuture web site and pushed out to other social media sites. There are three submission and prize categories:

  1. Student (age 8-18);
  2. College/Art School (ages 19- 22); and
  3. Professional/Amateur (over age 22).

Prizes: $300 per category. There will be a people’s choice award of $100 given at the event on the 14th voted on by attendees.

Contest Rules:

Videos must be 2 minutes or less in length

  • Must include the following text: Vote No on Minnesota Voter ID in November. Protect your right to vote.
  • No profanity or nudity.
  • Must be fact checked – videos that contain obvious inaccuracies will not be accepted.
  • Must be submitted by Sunday October 7th at 6 pm. CST. No late submissions.

Submission Process: We want to ensure privacy, security and contest integrity. There are two ways to submit your video:

  1. Send it on a flash drive to CoVM, 1833 Lincoln Ave, St Paul, MN 55105 or
  2. Upload your video to a social media site. Then send the link to your video to nomnid@hwpics.com with the wording VideoContest in the subject line. You must include your age, email, and phone number. Received videos will be transferred to another secure site for storing and to allow judges to view the submissions.

We will send you an email when we have uploaded the video to our secure site. Once that has happened, think about removing your video from the original site. This will help maintain your artistic integrity and perhaps prevent the pro-ID people from getting wise. Submit questions to nomnid@hwpics.com.
