Why Facebook Battles Are Important Even When They Do Harm To Your Organization

Medieval warriors battlingThe conventional wisdom is that Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites are dangerous for job seekers, recruiters, hiring managers, employees, employers and anyone else within 100 yards of a place of employment. They’re minefields and best left alone. I disagree. Yes, there are dangers and those dangers sometimes do damage to relationships but I believe that social media also provides huge potential benefits both professionally and personally and that sometimes you need to take a hit in order to make a positive impact.

Todd Raphael, editor-in-chief of ERE Media, recently interviewed me via Skype about why I believe sometimes heated battles on Facebook can have a net positive impact in our professional and personal relationships and why I believe that even when those battles do some harm to our organizations such as when those battles help bring significant benefits to our communities.
