collegerecruiter.comNo matter how old you are, when it comes to finding a summer job, you may need some help to get started. That’s especially true right now considering the job market and the economy. There are a lot of people fighting for fewer open positions, so you’ll need the right tips, advice and resources in order to really find the summer job that you’ve been seeking. Use this guide to get started and you’ll ensure that you are all set and lined up come summertime.

One of the first things that you’ll want to do is start with the big companies located in your area. These places might not be your top choices, however, they’ll also be the most likely to be hiring, because they always need new staff.

So when you apply to some of these big corporate chains and stores, you’ll be giving yourself a solid fallback if you don’t find anything else. Therefore, you’ll want to do things like fill out a McDonald application and a Walmart application if they have stores near you. Otherwise, consider other major fast food and retail chains in your area.

One of the most important steps is simply finding the applications, and getting them in ahead of time. Many people procrastinate and put it off, or don’t know where to actually apply. For these types of big chains and stores, you can find online applications and complete everything from home, on your computer. This will save you a great deal of time, energy and hassle, and will be an efficient way to move ahead with your efforts.

Another important step to take to find a summer job will be to brainstorm local stores and businesses in your area which you’ll have an interest in working for. You can do this in a few different ways. You can start with your interests and hobbies, and create a list of top choices based on that. You can also start by listing all of the stores in one particular location, like a strip mall near your home, which would be convenient to work at.

Then, once you have your list, you can call or visit them one by one and complete applications and see if they will be hiring. Hopefully you can find something which is convenient and accessible, while also aligning with your interests and a way that you’d like to spend your time. Of course you also want to choose based on which places are paying the best wages or offering the best benefits, or best work hours.

Ultimately, to find a summer job, be sure to find a place with many different online job applications. You’ll get a great selection of different potential job opportunities, all in one convenient location. You’ll also be able to ensure that there’s something near you, and something that matches your interests. It’s never too early to begin planning for the summer, so get started looking for and applying to that summer job today.
