While many people are shopping for gifts during the holidays, others are looking for employment.  Just like trying to get the best deals when shopping, job searching requires preparation to get the best results.  Some tips to remember if you are shopping for a job include:

Attend holiday parties and family gatherings– Spending time with your loved ones and friends is a great opportunity to talk about what is going on both personally and professionally.

Stay the course– Even though you might hear that hiring is slow during the holiday season, continue with your job search activities.  New opportunities can arise at any time of the year.

Send holiday greetings to all your contacts– Remind them about your job search, while expressing season’s greetings; this could help you standout from other job seekers.  Also, update your resume(s)and professional profiles.

Volunteer using your skills and expertise to help the less fortunate– Giving time and service helps take your mind off of yourself, and appreciate how blessed you are.  It may also be a factor of consideration on your resume for some employers.
