Are You Serious About Your Job Search?

Hopefully, the answer is yes, but be honest with yourself. How much time do you really spend looking for a job? It’s easy to make excuses, especially in a slowly recovering economy where it seems like no one can find a job. Not to mention during the summer when some job seekers would rather have some fun in the sun. There is nothing wrong with the latter reason, if you’re also giving quality time to your job search.

Your job search is a job itself. That means preparing yourself to get a job by doing online research, building a resume, writing a cover letter, etc. Think about the skills and attributes you have that could be an effective match for potential employers. In addition, explore internship and/or volunteer opportunities that help you gain some work experience; this can make you a more attractive candidate for a job.

By the way, don’t forget to network. Whether you’re attending a meeting or a cookout, tell people about your job search. Create a contact list for future reference, and keep in touch with those people. Sometimes, who you know can make a difference in your search.

When it comes to a serious job search, there are no excuses. Give a sincere effort to the process and it will pay off in the long run.
