Environmental Internship – The Wilderness Society

April 1, 2011

I started interning for the Wilderness Society at their DC office in January 2011 and so far it has been a fantastic experience. I have learned a great deal from the excellent people there and everyone is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend a Wilderness Society internship for any college students or recent undergraduates interested in environmentalism or non-profit work.

I have increased the Forest Team’s productivity by researching and compiling materials for various projects and taking notes at Congressional hearings and other events. I am playing a significant role in developing a new coalition of environmental and timber industry groups by maintaining a contacts database. I am also aiding the coalition’s formation by creating GIS maps and spreadsheets about the Forest Service’s Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program (CFLRP) projects. Finally, I have contributed to their excellent online blog (http://wilderness.org/content/memories-maryland-forest).

P.S. I am looking for an entry-level environmental policy/advocacy job in Washington, DC. If anyone has job search advice or interesting contacts, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you!
