What it is like to attend Iona College

Iona College is a 20 minute train ride north of Manhattan, in the suburban city of New Rochelle, New York. The school sits on a beautiful 35 acre campus where visitors are greeted with attractive flower arrangements, lush greenery, and age-old trees. IC is a medium sized, Catholic college founded by the Edmond Rice Congregation of Christian Brothers. There are approximately 3,200 undergraduate students; students represent 40 different states and 35 countries, according to IC’s Director of Admissions, Katherine Reilly.

For admission into Iona College, students need 3.0 GPAs, and SAT scores between 1,060-1,260 or ACT scores between 23-28. Important factors in the application process include essays, extracurricular activities, sports, and community service. IC students have meal plans that consist of on campus and off campus usage, and their meal cards can be used at a variety of locations. IC offers 40 majors and 30 minors, as well as master’s degrees and post master certificates in a variety of programs. Some of the most popular majors where students want to find entry level jobs are mass communications, finance, education, marketing, criminal justice, and psychology. In addition, there is an honors program for outstanding students. IC also features a new campus radio station, an award winning newspaper, and a television station. Most professors at the school have earned the highest degrees in their fields, and bring with them extensive, professional experience.
Iona College has 22 NCAA division one sports teams that are associated with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference; the men’s cross country team has won 17 consecutive match championships, six northeast regional championships, and earned a record second place finish at the NCAA championship. Students can choose to live in one of the five co-ed residence halls, or find off campus housing close to the college. There are also more than 90 active, student run clubs and organizations, including media groups, and fraternities and sororities. Other opportunities for students at IC include internships in New York City and study abroad programs.
