January 28, 2011

Bloomington, Indiana, which is located 50 miles south of Indianapolis, blends a vibrant community in a small town atmosphere. The city is also home to Indiana University. IU’s campus has about 1,800 acres and is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful college campuses in the U.S. It features an arboretum where students can hang out with friends, or study. There are more than 30,000 undergraduate students at IU, with 11,000 of them having minority backgrounds.

Admission into Indiana University is selective. The average critical reading and math SAT score is 1,210, the average ACT composite score is 26, and the average GPA is 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. The Director of Admissions, Mary Ellen Anderson, says the university will make its decision for admission based primarily on a student’s academic profile. In addition, when a student applies for admission and is admitted in the actual letter of acceptance, it will also contain information about the scholarships he or she may be awarded. IU offers 183 majors and 332 degree programs; some of the most popular majors where students want to find entry level jobs are business, psychology, exploratory (exploration), and education. The Jacob School of Music at IU is one of the world’s premiere music schools; it has 30 ensembles and presents more than 1,100 performances each year. IU employs 1,943 full-time faculty members and 366 part-time faculty members, of which 1,585 of them hold doctorates.
Indiana University fields 24 varsity athletic teams that play in the Big Ten Conference; teams have won 23 NCAA championships and 150 Big Ten championships. There are 11 residence halls that are grouped into three neighborhoods, as well as living/learning centers. Students can participate in any of IU’s clubs or organizations such as recreational sports programs or Greek Life, or they may create their own clubs or organizations.
